We've helped many people in Rockwall, TX over the years who were afflicted with back pain, and some of those folks had been diagnosed with a herniated disc. Earlier research has demonstrated that chiropractic adjustments can be an effective way to relieve the pain of disc herniation in the lumbar spine and other studies have shown that it can relieve herniations in the neck, too.
Now a recently-published case report improves our knowledge of the advantages of chiropractic for disc herniations. This study examines a 45-year-old woman who had a 2-year history of "chronic mild low back pain and right buttock pain." The patient reported a worsening of the radicular pain down her right leg, and also reported occasional prickling in her right foot. These are all signs of neurological complications, and are serious symptoms.
The patient sought help from a chiropractor, who managed the patient with chiropractic adjustments and "advanced myofascial release therapy." The therapy consisted of 2 weeks of adjustments and an extra four weeks of home exercises and rehab.
The patient reported a "significant improvement in her low back pain and radiculopathy. In addition, she achieved some improvement in balance."
This case study confirms what we see in our Rockwall, TX office: chiropractic is great for reducing the pain of disc herniations without pills or high-risk surgery.
